All about me

My name is Akeem Mayers, and I’m currently enrolled at Miami Dade College: North Campus in high hopes of transfering to UArts or Ringling if money is not an issue.  I major in Graphics Design as I personally love the field.

My hobbyist lifestyle involves doing comics and illustrations using traditional media like nib pens, ink, and pencil.  Most of the time, I just do sketches with a fine point pen whenever I possibly could.  Also being the gentleman I am, I love making custom postcards to people I’m really fond with out of good gesture, or family and friends. Seeing people happy over something I crafted myself is just about all the gratitude I need.

To be involved since I lack a proper job, I do illustrations for the Falcon Times (college paper) at MDC:North. During my experience here, I met alot of interesting people. We collaborated ideas for illustrations and comic strips that publish within the paper.  This is where learning to work alongside a different variety of people was put to the test.

With my paper, I created a series called ASK3.  It’s a story involving 3 friends with 3 letters in their names.  Currently, I’m planning another series behind it.

Fandom and Interest

I like comics like Peanuts, and Calvin and Hobbes. I’m a bit of a sucker when it comes to simple comics with their own take of sublime humor.  This also involves The Boondocks comics and the animated series. My other favorite Amercian comics include Scott Pilgrim, Empowered, Tank Girl, and Kick Ass. I’m also HUUUGE fan of the One Piece comic because it gave everything the kid in me demands: ADVENTURE!

As for animated series, my list can go on forever.   The ones that stood out to me were Magas XLR, Teen Titans, Swat Kats, The Boondocks and.. well?  The list can go on too.

My favorite video games are Metal Slug, Capcom games, and tri-Ace games(Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile).  I also like freeware and indie games.  My favorites include Cave Story, La-Mulana, Egoboo, and Laxius Force.
